Estimates and quantity/material guides, not guarantees

Results are deterministic estimates from your inputs, your prices and standard reference conventions (wall area = perimeter × height; gable = ½ × base × height; net area = gross − openings; squares = ceil(area × (1 + waste) ÷ 100); boxes = ceil(area × (1 + waste) ÷ coverage); cost = area × your $/sq ft + labor + add-ons, ×(1 + contingency)). Real projects vary — verify measurements and figures before relying on them.

Not a bid, not a price index

Cost tools give planning estimates from your own prices, not bids or contracts, and we store no live material or labor price list, no regional cost index, no product catalog and no contractor directory. Cost bands are a labeled sanity guide only. Get itemized written quotes from licensed, insured siding contractors.

Measure & confirm; buy extra

Quantity tools give planning guides. Measure your actual walls and gables and follow the manufacturer’s exposure and installation instructions, and buy a little extra for waste, trim and complex layouts — coverage and exposure vary by product, and you should round up to whole squares/boxes/bundles.

Labeled typicals, not a certified spec

The coverage & exposure per square, waste factor, door/window/garage deductions, cost bands and lifespan are labeled published snapshots / planning typicals — confirm against the manufacturer’s installation instructions and stated coverage, local code and a licensed, insured siding contractor. Moisture, flashing, sheathing and pre-1978 lead paint on old siding are a pro’s call: follow the EPA RRP rule and hire a certified firm. Lead-paint abatement, structural and moisture repairs and code certification are not engineered here.

Anti-overlap: residential siding quantity, material & cost only

This site covers residential siding / wall-cladding quantity, material & cost math only — the wall cladding. It is not a roofing / roof-shingle / roof-envelope resource (exteriorcalcs owns the roof — walls only, never the roof); not a gutter / downspout resource (guttercalcs — soffit & fascia as siding trim only, never the gutter); not a window / door replacement or sizing resource (windowcalcs — here windows and doors are only openings to deduct and to trim); not a painting / staining resource (paintingcalcs — here NEW siding & install, never a repaint); not a whole-home remodel / renovation estimator (renovationcalcs); not an attic / wall thermal insulation R-value resource (insulationcalcs — insulated siding is a cost line only); and not a professional moisture/flashing/structural diagnosis, lead-paint abatement or code-certification tool.

Not an installation or safety guide

Nothing here is an installation procedure, a moisture/flashing verdict, a structural or engineering determination, or safety advice — working at height on ladders is a fall risk, and pre-1978 homes fall under the EPA RRP lead-safe rule. Defer the professional job to a licensed, insured siding contractor (RRP-certified for pre-1978 homes) and confirm code with your local building department.
